Apple cinnamon porridge is a delicious and creamy breakfast recipe. It is incredibly easy to make and is prepped the night before to make your morning even easier. Less than 10 minutes to cook, this will become your new favourite breakfast dish.
In this blog post, you will learn how to make creamy apple cinnamon porridge.
Pour your filtered water, rolled oats, cinnamon, and diced apples into a large pot. Let it sit overnight for up to 16 hours.
In the morning, turn on the hob to a medium heat and bring the oats to a boil. Once it has reached a boil, reduce the heat to low and let the oats continue to simmer. Make sure to stir frequently to prevent the oats from sticking to the bottom of the pot.
Simmer for 4 minutes then add the milk or cream and the brown sugar. Continue to simmer and mix the porridge for another 3 minutes until you have a nice thick porridge.
Remove from the heat and let cool. Pour into bowls and top with either honey or maple syrup.
Apple cinnamon porridge can be stored for up to 3-4 days in the refrigerator in an airtight container.
To reheat, add a splash of either milk or water and reheat on the stovetop on low heat. Alternatively, you can reheat the apple porridge in the microwave. Use short bursts to reheat in the microwave.
Rolled Oats: rolled oats are the star ingredient. They provide the hearty and creamy texture that you want in your porridge while also being rich in fibre.
Filtered Water: filtered water is used to cook the oats and soften the oats overnight.
Cinnamon: cinnamon is the warm and aromatic spice that complements the apples perfectly.
Apples: apples add natural sweetness to the porridge. I prefer to use Pink Lady apples; however, it is up to you and what you have at home to use.
Whole Milk: whole milk or cream adds extra creaminess and richness to balance out the oats and to make the porridge silky smooth.
Brown Sugar: brown sugar sweetens the porridge with a caramel like undertone.
Honey or Maple Syrup: honey or maple syrup tops off the porridge and adds more sweetness if you prefer your porridge sweeter.
