Cuisine English
- 6 slices of stale bread
- 2 tbsp. butter
- 4 eggs
- 2 c. whole milk
- 1/2 c. granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 c. raisins optional
Brown Sugar Sauce (optional)
- 4 tbsp. butter
- 2 tbsp. brown sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp. whole milk
Preheat the oven to 350℉/176℃/Gas Mark 4.
Grease a 9x9 pan with butter.
Cut up the stale bread into small cubed pieces, about 1” in size. Place evenly onto the bottom greased pan. Melt the butter and pour it over the bread. Sprinkle the raisins over the bread cubes here if using.
In a medium bowl, whisk the eggs. Add the milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon, and continue to whisk together.
Pour the mixture over the bread cubes, making sure to coat each piece of bread.
Bake in the oven for 45-50 minutes or until it springs back easily if you touch it with your oven glove on.
Brown Sugar Sauce
In a saucepan, melt the butter on medium heat. Let the butter brown then reduce the heat to a simmer and add the brown sugar and whole milk to the butter.
Continue to simmer until the sauce is browned and thickened. About 1-2 minutes.
When the bread pudding is finished baking, remove from the oven and pour the brown sugar sauce onto the top of the baked bread pudding. Serve and enjoy!
