How to Cut in Butter

Use this tutorial guide to guide you through a key step of pastry making: cutting in butter.

Ingredients
  

  • Bowl of flour for your pastry
  • Unsalted Butter, cold and cubed

Instructions
 

  • In a large bowl, add the flour and other dry ingredients.
  • Remove the unsalted butter from the fridge, cut the correct amount that you need and cube the butter until it is all in 1/2 inch cubes.
  • Add the cubed butter to the flour mixture and cut in the butter by whichever method you decide. The mixture is done when there are only pea-sized bits of butter left in the mixture.
  • Once the butter is cut in, proceed with your recipe that you are making
