How to Cut in Butter
Use this tutorial guide to guide you through a key step of pastry making: cutting in butter.
- Bowl of flour for your pastry
- Unsalted Butter, cold and cubed
In a large bowl, add the flour and other dry ingredients.
Remove the unsalted butter from the fridge, cut the correct amount that you need and cube the butter until it is all in 1/2 inch cubes.
Add the cubed butter to the flour mixture and cut in the butter by whichever method you decide. The mixture is done when there are only pea-sized bits of butter left in the mixture.
Once the butter is cut in, proceed with your recipe that you are making
